Can a public school teacher hand out bibles?

My daughter's teacher handed out bibles today in her class. Is this legal?
She's in sixth grade and the class is technology. I can't see how it could have been part of the class.

I don't think that they can. If you guys are atheist, than you can tell them that your a little bit offended.
They may be able to hand them out (not sure) but they definitely can't make her read it!
